The therapeutic relationship is central to the work we do together, serving as a key agent of change. It’s important to me that you feel as though you are in good company.

Joy Belamarich

My approach is informed by a psychodynamic framework, incorporating relational, attachment-based, internal parts work, and mindfulness-based practices. I aim to find balance between healthy challenge and meaningful validation, and I believe in the power of curiosity and compassion to shift away from self-judgement and towards self-realization, always allowing for spontaneity and humor along the way. Rather than dwell in the past, I view it as one of our most valuable resources for gaining insight into current behaviors and patterns. By approaching earlier experiences as data, we unearth buried needs, roots of anxiety, and stories that inhibit us from present-day freedom. My training across several therapeutic modalities shapes how I integrate psychodynamic fundamentals with cognitive behavioral approaches, grounded in the belief that therapeutic resonance cannot be one-size-fits-all.

Specialties

SELF WORTH

You may feel as though your sense of self-worth is outsourced to the reactions and approval of those around you. When things go well, you feel confident—but when they don’t, your sense of self can quickly unravel. Living on this “self-worth rollercoaster” can feel exhausting, and you may want to learn how to anchor your self-worth internally but aren’t sure where to begin.

ANXIETY

Anxiety can become so familiar and automatic that simply being aware of your thought patterns doesn’t always make it any easier to manage. In fact, that awareness can sometimes bring more distress. You might find yourself wondering, “If I understand why I do this, why can’t I stop?” In therapy, we work to gently modify your relationship with anxiety and its presence in your day-to-day life—learning alternative ways to tolerate uncertainty and better understand how the urge for control can shape and sustain anxious patterns.

PERFECTIONISM

You may notice that the perfectionistic tendencies that once helped you succeed are now creating internal pressure and overwhelm. Perhaps you’ve entered a new phase of life where rigid standards make it harder to adapt, rest, or respond flexibly to unexpected struggles. Together, we explore the origins of these patterns—including the different “parts” of yourself that may push for perfection—while drawing on your personal values to respond with greater flexibility.

MATERNAL MENTAL HEALTH

The intense and often contradictory nature of the emotional experience as a new mother is profound. Perhaps you’ve encountered unexpected grief postpartum, or you are interested in exploring the role of social media in modern parenting. Within the therapeutic space, we gently strengthen the capacity to sit within the nuance and complexity of your emotional world.

Insurance

I am an out-of-network provider and do not accept insurance directly. However, I am happy to provide you with a superbill that you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement.

If you're unsure whether your insurance offers out-of-network benefits, I recommend calling your provider to ask:

  • Do I have out-of-network mental health coverage?

  • What is my deductible and has it been met?

  • What percentage of therapy session costs will be reimbursed?

Sliding scale slots are considered on a case-by-case basis.

 FAQs

  • If you’re interested in starting therapy, the first step would be to set up a no-cost consultation call. During this call, we’ll discuss what’s bringing you to therapy, and I can answer any questions you may have. If it feels like a good fit, we can review availability and schedule your first session.

  • At this time, I offer virtual sessions only via a HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform.

  • A minimum of 24 hours’ notice is required to cancel or reschedule an appointment.
Late cancellations or missed appointments will be charged the full fee unless rescheduled within the same calendar week.
